In a world where many argue the two sides of politics are moving to the centre it shouldn’t really make a difference.
So why does it seem to matter so much this time around? I think the answer is about hope of economic prosperity. This may not be true of all of Australia, but in WA where the threat of a Mining Tax sent shudders through our community from Mining entrepreneurs to the mining workers and of course all the support and service industries.
Whatever your social views are about the tax it is pretty obvious that if liberal wins and the threat of the tax is gone, there will be a renewed level of economic hope that will filter through to the property market. I suspect this impact will be even more noticeable in lifestyle regions like Chittering. The weekender is a luxury item that will follow the sentiment of the market.
My belief is that people are doing their research now and pending the result of the election will start to pounce. I think an example of this is the web viewing statistics - I can see genuine views and engagement online, but being in research phase people are not taking it to the next level.
I found this quote in my online research which supports the importance of an election on the property market.
Kent Lardner, chief operating officer of PriceFinder, agreed that based on past experience, a winter election would have an effect on the property market.
“Sales numbers tend to decline during a federal election,” Mr Lardner said.
“Most buyers and sellers tend to hold over until after the election as it’s traditionally been a bad time to sell or buy property.
Only 2 weeks to go..we’ll see.
